It can vacuum without water. But to mop you add some water where the little rubber plug is when you open or pull out the tray. There also is a pad that slides in there easily at the top where of the tray. Plus there is a video. Go to you tube and type in Roomba j7 vacuum and it comes up so you can get a on it and watch the entire video f how easy it is to work. I like be mine. Take a moment to see the video. You’ll be a pro!
