Once I discovered the training mode, it seemed to do a better job of staying in one place. Until it builds out the smart map, it is not very "smart". In my case, it would need to recharge during cleaning and every time it came off the charger, it would start in the same area and "waste" time there before going further. I have a fairly large space and so I only have it clean selected rooms and have not had it clean everything since it was mapped out so don't know if it would still go back and forth in that case. If you clean selected areas, it definitely does not wander around.

This may take a few go around a before it builds that map. Then using the app you can set boundary lines and it will clean within those boundary lines. I love this feature.
