No, it does not require Wifi to work. But to take advantage of all the features you do need a wifi connection so that the app can synch with the Roomba. On the app you can choose your preferences (if it should vaccum the same room twice, if you need the carpet boost when a carpet is detected, if you want it to clean edges) and also set up a cleaning schedule. The app will also let you know when the bin is full and if the Roomba has gotten stuck somewhere and needs rescuing.
