• IRobot has several vertical range sensors that stop unit from running off ledges or tumbling down stairs. My units have never failed to stop and turn around when reaching top of stairs, with no shortage of opportunities!

• This thing maps out your house from my experience, it recognizes stairs with its front sensors so you should be good, if not Roomba will tell you its stuck on a cliff.
