Hello Rstewa5, The device can be used without an internet connection, but you would be missing on a lot of features offered from the iRobot Home app. If the network emits both signals at the same time, the robot may have some issues with connecting/staying connected. If the network emits both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz separately, the robot will have no issue with connecting to it, as the J7+ can connect to both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz networks.
