Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello Ralph, I bought this a few months back and absolutely love it. I can tell it is really sturdy & has a really great weight to it. To answer your two questions that you asked: Material: I believe it is made out of very hard plastic based on my attempt to use a magnet & have it stick to the Iron Throne which the magnet failed to do so. Weight: It is indeed weighted. While not entirely scientific I weighed myself 2x on the bathroom scale not holding the bookend and received the same weight. I then held the bookend and weighed myself 2x receiving the same weight both times again. Based on that the item weighs exactly 3 pounds.
