• Works on battery. Buy a power cord as back up if battery fails. Of course, you can still open manually if battery fails.

• It is battery powered, but you can buy the cord separately. It's available on bestbuy.com.

• I bought it for my mom. You can use either one. However, the power cord is not included. Best Buy has it for less than $20. I have a different brand touch less trash can and I'm still using my original energizer batteries since Christmas. The batteries last a least 6 months. My wife and mom absolutely love their touch less trash cans! A great product!

• It comes with a removable ac adapter to plug in, but can also be ran solely on 4 D size batteries.
