• Yes and NO. The J5Create provides a port to connect your computer power source chord allowing the docking station the ability to continually power your lap top. Plug in power source I use is from the Lenovo lap top which then connects to the J5Create docking station. So the docking station is also continuously powering the Lenovo lap top.

• No, the JCD381 does not require a separate power source as it is bus-powered and works off the computer's USB port.
