The transmitter should be able to take the hdmi signal from the other room and broadcast it to the waiting receiver where the new tv is as soon as the transmitter and receiver are properly paired. However, depending on the materials used in the walls between the units as well as any wiring inside the walls, there can be some signal degradation.
