• Yes it measures steps taken and tells you how many miles your steps add up to. It doesn't use GPS and I'm not exactly sure how it tracks your steps, etc., but it does.

• You calibrate the band to your stride by walking a set distance, such as a track. The software calibrates your steps by a correlation of the distance to number of steps taken. The more info you provide, the more accurate it will be to your stride.
