It's not true. I did not have to use Google products but I did return it. I actually returned 2 of them because after a while, the sound got distorted.

Please try again later.This is likely in reference to the connecting the JBL Bar 9.1 connecting to WiFi, through the google home app initially, as mentioned in an other post. It has an ethernet connection so if you plug it there then, there wouldn't be a need to use the google home app. If you don't want to use the soundbar's WiFi capability to directly stream to the bar for example, then you could go without using google home. You should still be able to use Bluetooth to stream to the bar, and/or a physical ethernet connection to stream to it with Airplay from an apple device for example, and to do updates as well.
