“I’m confused about the detachable speakers. Should they work while docked? When there is no light does that mean they are charged? Do I need to recalibrate every time? Haven’t got them working right. Any advice welcome.”

Yes they work while docked and do not need to be recalibrated each time. I would refer to user guide for help. I found they were say to set up or google videos on best set up.
