“Every time I unhook the speakers for surround sound it says batteries are low no matter how long I leave them plugged into the soundbar.I was told to charge them with a usb but for the cost I don’t see why I should have to charge them with a usb cord.”

Thanks for reaching out. Please note that the detachable speaker of our JBL Bar 9.1 will only charge when docked into the bar with the soundbar off. If you need more help, please contact our customer support.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You must make sure you are turning the sound bar off when you attach the rear speakers for them to charge. Once you attach them and turn the bar off, you will see the lights on the rear speakers come on and start charging.
