The noise cancelling was non existent without music playing. And very minimal when music was on. I returned these since I was looking for good noise cancelling.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you need music or some other audio source coming through to activate the noise cancellation feature.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. These do allow you to use the noise canceling feature even with no music playing, but the noise canceling on these JBLs is pretty useless. It really does not work very well - especially compared to Bose's noise cancelling. I am going to return these JBLs.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They most likely won't have to be connected to a source, but will have to be powered on because they have active noise cancellation technology. This technology in simple terms sends an opposite phase sound wave to attempt to counteract the ambient noise around you. In theory it sounds great, but in some cases it is not always well done. I've read some reviews on these that state the noise cancellation is not up to par. For the money, you can probably get something cheaper that has much better noise cancelling technology, especially if you aren't concerned about being able to connect to a source
