Yes you can use one for whatever reason.

You cannot you the noise cancelation or ambient noise features with an individual bud, but that is to be expected in my experience.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.So each earbud is paired to specific controls i.e. you can specifically designate one ear to music controls and one ear to noise canceling controls. You can use one ear but that specific control is only designated to that ear.
