It has rubber footpads on both left and right "long sides" so it can be laid on either side horizontaly... it is HEAVY! I HAVE ALL OF THE OTHER JBL PORTABLES. I thought this was "portable" too. But it is heavy, and the wheels under it are too close together. It is very top heavy when rolling and it WILL flop to one side at the slightest "bump"...trust.
