“When I remove one ear bud will they automatically pause what I am listening to until i either put the earbud back in or hit play myself?”

Thank you for your inquiry. Our JBL Vibe Beam headphones do not support the Auto Play & Pause feature. However, you can play and pause by tapping once on the right earbud. You can also customize it and other gestures on our JBL Headphones App. If you're interested, we recommend our JBL Live Flex 3 that has the feature.
