“Does this have to be anchored to a wall? Trying to avoid having to mount to wall.. I have a 55 in Samsung. If I have to anchor into drywall then I might as well just mount it fully.”

No. Our Kanto stand sits on a table, is adjustable to some degree in height, and supports a 65" Sony flat screen TV. The Best Buy installers raised it up until there was room for a Polk center channel speaker system underneath the TV. No issues.
