I don’t think it’s necessary. It seems very stable.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't have strap attached but I do not live in area of the country where earthquakes occur. If your area is prone to earthquakes you could use L brackets attached to the cabinet that the tv sits on for peace of mind.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I also had a similar problem. Part of it depends on your TV size and balance. I mounted a 50" and while it seemed stable I decided to attach the strap and hang a 10# weight behind the TV. I also mounted the TV low on the stand to minimize a tip over problem. The other question is are there going to be little children, pets or for that matter people bumping into the TV ? If so I would attach it to something.
