They do not need a wire between them. They can be run wirelessly or with the supplied ethernet cable.

You do not need the wire between them unless there is too much interference that they are cutting out. I use them as computer speakers so there is plenty of "stuff" between them and I do not need it. I just run the power cord to each one and connect wirelessly.

Wiring them together is optional. If you run them wirelessly, they sample at 48kHz/24bit. Wired, they do 96kHz/24bit.

They claim they are blue tooth speakers but they can't stay connected and sound like terrible. DO NOT BUT THESE.
