• No, you don't *need* an amp to power these. Although if you want more power then you can definitely install an amp for them. Mine work just fine on the average aftermarket head unit. An amplifier can give you better sound out of any speaker in comparison to the head unit, so it's really your call.

• The amp would be the factory or aftermarket car radio. There would be a difference depending on amp built in to radio feeding speaker quality.
