Yes, you must use the USB port on this model. Some others are wireless. I used a 1M USB extension to flat panel mount cable. It replaced the cigarette lighter. I then have to use a lighting to USB A cable. I also connected the MIC. I would say the Apple Carplay works well on this stereo.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have a wire from radio that comes through my glovebox that connects to a charging cable. When I plug the charging cable into my phone, CarPlay works. I’m pretty sure wireless isn’t an option with this system, but I am not a technical person.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello, At first I didn’t read anything either about using apple CarPlay with a usb connection? But unfortunately I found out after installation that this model has to have a USB connection to work! I initially thought it was me doing something wrong? Now Kenwood does sell similar units with a volume knob and “wireless” apple CarPlay but Bestbuy doesn’t carry them or I would’ve exchanged it. The only reason I kept it is because it’s seemingly very difficult anymore to find a radio with a knob! Otherwise it’s a great radio.
