Hello Valued Customer, thank you for sharing your question! An always-on cigarette lighter plug can record continuously, but without the hard-wire kit you may lose some functionality. You will also have to adjust the settings on the camera to "automatic recording on power". Note that with continuous recording can lead to battery drain that may be problematic, based on amount of time the vehicle sits. A hard-wire kit solves this issue and turns on the camera only when there is activity, resulting in less battery issue.
