Thanks for your question! The average carafe brew times are as follows: 6 cups: 5-6 mins, 8 cups: 6-7 mins, 10 cups: 7-8 mins, 12 cups: 8-9 mins. Once you have completed a carafe brew the heating plate will automatically turn on and remain on for 2 hours before turning off. Once you have completed a single cup brew, the brewer will automatically turn off after 5 minutes. Hope this helps!

But I don’t see why you couldn’t “brew” some out the kcup side (or the carafe side for that matter) without po/coffee to get hot water. Carafe takes maybe 5 mins. Kcup takes like 2 mins.
