Yes you must use the carfe pod when using the carfe but it is so worth it if more than one person is drinking at the same time. If not you should use the single serve. You also have the option to purchase the reusable pod or carfe pod. If cost is a factor or they do not sell you brand the reusable pod is worth the price. I have both.

It is best to use the large carafe k-cups for a carafe of coffee.

Yes the carafe pods hold more grinds hence the need to use them versus the standard pods that are only good for one cup.

If you want to fill a Crate, we brought an Filter and my husband fill it with his Ground Up coffe. He did the Pods, but he had to use 3 or 4. He said he wanted his strong.
