• All machines you should be able to just avoid the pod and get a cup of hot water. I know the three I have used worked that way and all was a different machine.

• They have a hot water option. . . but if there is a strong smell of coffee, pop out the little K-cup holder and rinse it first. That should take care of it.

• I don’t smell any when I dispense hot water. This unit alerts you when it’s time to clean. And, there’s instructions how at the site they provide on the screen of the unit.
