This Inverter Air Conditioner creates heat by not by using an electrical heating element, but by running in reverse cycle as a Heat Pump. So it IS a Heat Pump, but to keep things simple for the public, they describe it as an AC with heat. It is one of the first Heat Pump window units widely available. As a Heat Pump, it is about 2.5x or more efficient in heating a room as a heater that uses electric elements. One HUGE catch is that this unit will not heat if the outside air temperature is less than 41 degrees F. This limits its usefulness to states in the very southern US where temperatures never approach freezing. More window heat pumps useful in really cold weather should be along within the next year or so.
