“Purchased & installed the KitchenAid low profile microwave KMLS311HSS. It is vented to roof.Under the "stainless steel vents" (above my range) are thin black mesh filters.Are these the"grease" filter? Or do they get removed because of roof venting?”

Hi Tina, yes, the vents are grease filters. Inside the Use and Care Guide, page 6 there is a diagram of the grease filter area with care instructions.
