Hi, unfortunately, you cannot. The handle needs to be pulled.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you press the foot pedal really fast and move your foot away quickly the door will slide open on its own. But this happens only about 1 in 10 tries. The foot press/door open mechanism is poorly designed on this model. I'm guessing the reason for this is too keep the trash door from sliding open too fast. This is our 2nd unit of this model - we returned the 1st one thinking the door/foot pedal was broken.
