Yes, dont need to vent if you dont have one installed. This unit can go either way.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.First, i love this microwave. Just got it after ordering in November. Love the steam fature. Heats so far without sauce etc. splattering everywhere. I dont think i would use in a cabinet. If above range, it sticks out in front of the range, so you would need a deeper cabinet. Also, the fan automatically turns on if it senses too much heat inside or from the range. Dont think you can " not use it" It also has a light and filters underneath. Not sure what it would rest on.
