You can change from gas to electric. The drawback is that changing will require capping the gas line to the old oven which requires a certified plumber, then you will have to hire an electrician to not only run the correct electrical lines to the location, but also expand your electrical panel as well. It can be done, likely less than the price you have quoted so far, however it is not a cheap process switching from gas to electric.
