“Have older version of this & it has the "insert probe" control panel issue that is widely known/reported online. It appears possible to buy a replacement panel for $400 I can't find an appliance repair company to do it - will this new one fit same space?”

It fit perfectly with no problems right into the same hole. My advice, google your old oven model number and find the installation manual which list the requirements. If you are still worried, take your model number with you when shopping and have the store experts tell you if it is the same.
