Hello Jen, the Trim kit would be Stainless Steel and the ventilation would be done within the space provided where the Microwave sits. Thank you for your inquiry on our KitchenAid appliances.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don’t know about the ventilation—but there is space behind it as it is mounted above double ovens. Again, the trim sounds like plastic when tapped on, but I don’t know if it is. I do know it matches my ovens perfectly, so I am happy.
