The enamel in these ovens is poor quality and chips and flakes within months of use - this is not considered important enough to repair/replace, as KitchenAid considers it cosmetic. The function of enamel is to protect the rest of the oven from moisture/food/heat. While cracked enamel will not immediately cause your oven to stop functioning, it takes years off the lifespan of this appliance by exposing the rest of it to the elements inside your oven.
