Sonos or any 2 zone aduio receiver will work as long as everything is homerun to 1 location.

We had it fully 5.1 utilized in the past It works perfectly fine so far for the New 2 sets of speakers, (also purchased through Best Buy). We use them in two different rooms, a single music choice at a time using a 6 CD changer in either the "A" or "B" "room" at a time is how we configured it. The sound quality meets our needs very well, despite one set of the speakers having needed to be daisy-chained when a faulty in-wall wire was discovered. The faulty wire, if it were to have been replaced would necessitate cutting and afterwards repairing holes and channels through walls ceilings an behind a chimney. As for what works "best", it is my understanding that several choices are available for a cost premium above what my Yamaha equivalent is called these days. For a small surround-sound media room of 9.1 configuration, I am using a Marantz SR-6014 Receiver unit that has many features, and to date works very well for my needs.
