No its very safe. We have this in our playroom. My two year old is always messing with it. It's not hot to the touch, and if it's knocked over it will automatically turn off for safety.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would not place it in a toddler's room. Tall vertical shape would allow a toddler to tip it over easily. I have not touched it when on but I assume it would be too hot for a toddler. Most probably that is going to be the case with any portable heater.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes this heater blows hot air from front grill which is metal, so the front is of course very hot. The rest of the heater case is made of plastic which does not get hot.
