This has been answered previously. The Maximum memory is 8GB, however you could void the warranty by DIY. It's recommended to have a qualified service tech install the 8Gbm stick replacing the 4GB for you.

Your certified technician will be able to replace the 4GB of RAM for an 8GB stick of RAM. To be sure this configuration will work for your son, be sure the games and programs he will need to install are compatible with this computer configuration and Windows 10 operating system. You can check with his school for guidance and you can check the web sites of the games he plays for the requirements and compatibility of the games he plays before you invest in a new computer.
