That will depend on the programs that the student will need to use. This is a good mid-level computer that will be good for Microsoft Office type work and browsing the internet. If this is the type of work that the student will be doing, the Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15 would be a good choice.

No! The battery is awful! It holds aprox 1.5 hrs if that right out of the box.. very disappointing!!

Yes. It's lightweight and has lots of storage. I use it to do transcription (my job) and my children (5th, 3rd, 1st) use it for their homeschool assignments as well.
