Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can NEVER update a CPU or laptop processor. Period! This is an i 3, and it will always be an i 3. You can however upgrade the RAM and the Hard Drive, very easy to do, and it has enough to upgrade to 16 GB of DDR3 RAM, and can swap a SSD Sata drive for the 5400 mechanical drive it has now, you will loose space though, unless you buy a 1 TB SSD at over 1,000 bucks :-)

Please try again later.Unless you are have the tools to upgrade the laptop yourself yourself I would assume you can, but the cost of buying the chip and then installing itself yourself will be a problem. Just save yourself the trouble and purchase this laptop with the i7-6500U already preinstalled.
