HD is a standard hard drive with a spinning data platter(s), a SSD is a solid state drive, like a much larger and robust SD card.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have this model and it is a good base unit. It's pretty slow when it comes to loading the OS and all the other background programs but that is because of the old school HDD that only has a rotation speed of 5400 rpms. Adding extra RAM will help this, but only by so much, as RAM is more important to tasking than anything. With a SSD, the load time is almost instantaneous, but again that will depend upon how fast the drive is capable of reading. Even with the slowest one, you would still see a gigantic improvement in load time. If you have any type of tablet, whether it be one with an Android or Mac OS, those are all solid state drive operated (just to give you an idea of the time it takes to boot a tablet). When I open Microsoft Word on my current configuration, it takes about 35-45 seconds for it to fully appear. If that isn't a deal breaker for you, then you should be fine with this standard unit. I hope this answered your question.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think this would be a very good starter laptop. You shouldn't have too much difficulty using it for those applications. The difference between the two types of drives is hardware. The HDD is a mechanical drive with disc plates, motor, and heads. The SSD is more like a very large capacity thumb drive installed into the computer. Much faster and no moving parts, so it is a lot less likely to fail.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is a good general purpose laptop. It would be good for online searches and should be good for taking online tests. HD generally refers to screen resolution it means a screen resolution of 1080p. It can also stand for "Hard Drive" HDD is a standard disk drive and a SSD is a solid state hard drive. It has no moving parts and stores data on transistors. It is faster that an standard disk drive.
