You just have to have two things. 1: A microphone that you would then plug into the audio jack (headset w/ mic works also) 2: A program that can record your audio. (I believe PowerPoint and such has that function built in) Sound cards are only for external sound, or high fidelity sound using expensive headphones. The motherboard has a built-in onboard sound chip which does the same thing as a sound card. (Just not for super high quality music production stuff)
