“What does "battery is on shipping mode" mean? Does that mean the battery is never charged or fully charged? How can I tell if the pc is fully charged or over charged? For the 1st charge, should it be overcharged so that its life will be longer / stronger?”

Shipping mode puts the least drain on the battery. The battery was charged during assembly, so they may be some charge left in the battery. Fully charge the system when you charge for the first time. The battery can't be over charged. Once it reaches 100%, it will only charge to maintain 100%.
