“Here's a question for you. With 4 of the USBs behind the door on the front, if I use a mouse that has one of those little nubs that plugs into a USB, would the door still close with one (or two) of those plugged in?”

Obviously, that will depend on how far that "little nub" sticks out. You can increase the number of USB ports on the back by using a USB Hub if the front facing USB ports won't work for you.
