The device should have some charge left within the battery from the initial factory charge. You can use the device right out of the box. We recommend you use the device initially, plugged in, that way there is no possibility that the battery will loose charge while activating/updating Windows 10 for the first time. You can use the device while it is plugged in and charging. It will just take longer for the device to charge if you are using the device while charging. It should take approximately 2.5 hours to charge the device to 100% from 20% charge.
