Thinkpad is their business line; IdeaPad is their consumer line. Basically different branding geared for different folks...business generally has higher specifications but this is already pretty solid. I use this for work with no issues, but I would talk with your IT department if you use it for work as there might be software that might need a laptop with higher specifications.
