I believe the 8gb stick can be removed and replaced with a 16gb if you wish. I was thinking of doing a swap out of the 8gb for 2 16gb 5600 sticks too but later decided to just add a 24gb 5600 stick to the mix to max out the 32gb capacity. My daughter feels the laptop runs smoothly so I doubt you'd have any trouble with dropping the 8gb stick in order to add more RAM capacity. I don't know though how your performance may change if you downgrade the speed of the sticks to 4800

And yes, the laptop has two slots so you could install another 16GB stick later. My suggestion is to leave the 8GB stick in when you add the 16GB stick to give you 24GB. The 8GB stick can be downclocked to 4800MHZ. Then, later on, swap out the 8GB stick for another 16GB.

Though to get best performance if doing so you should get dual memory chips instead of just one since this laptop is setup for dual channels. Performance by swapping down to 4800 will be slightly less but the common user won't notice it.
