Hi, Mosh. Yes, so long as you have any subscriptions necessary to the services you plan to use, should it be required, you should be able to access news and media online via your web browser or by the respective apps in the Google Play Store.

You can either use the streaming facility and watch your favorite news source, or you can use the browser to check the news of the day. Like with any tablet, computer, smartphone, etc.
