It heats in several ways. When using it as a microwave, of course, it uses a magnetron that emits microwaves like any microwave oven. When using the convection oven, it uses a standard electric heating element behind the oven cavity and a small fan to circulate the heat around the oven compartment. When using the grill function, there is a small electric broiler element mounted on the ceiling of the oven cavity. The oven does not employ infrared.
