“I know this vents to outside - is there a damper included? I ask because my current (old) range hood has no damper and the cold air in the winter zooms right in. I have block it off in the winter. Does this come with a trim kit? Does it need one?”

Yes LMV1831st includes a damper, although flimsy, I'm sure it will do the trick. No it does not include a trim kit.
