It's generally not recommended to go over the wattage recommended by the manufacturer that's all I can tell you generally when you put something in this higher wattage than it's supposed to be it can potentially cause fires definitely not something you want they can cause things to overheat not a professional opinion just something I've been told by other Appliance manufacturers that includes anything from light bulbs inside an appliance to your lamp

I called LG about the light, and they do not recommend increasing the wattage. They said that this is not supposed to be a cooktop light but a night light.
